We are delighted to welcome Matt Gibbons as the newest Artist in Residence at the Brontë Birthplace. Matt has worked closely with the house for many years, documenting every stage of our journey—from the renovation process and our opening months to our grand Royal opening. His dedication, care, and eye for detail have shaped our of our story.

Based in Thornton, Matt Gibbons a photographer, draws his inspiration from the landscapes and wildlife of Yorkshire and further afield. Matt captures a wide variety of landscapes throughout the seasons, focusing on particular how different light impacts on the natural beauty of the landscape. Matt is often found taking long hikes on the moors and dales with his spaniel, Dexter!

One of Matt’s proudest achievements as a photographer was photographing the restoration of the Bronte Birthplace between 2024 and 2025 which then culminated in being invited to be the official photographer for the Birthplace for the official opening of the house by HM Queen Camilia in May 2025.

For this new exhibition, Matt turns his lens toward Thornton, Brontë Country, and the striking natural landscapes and wildlife of Yorkshire. His work captures the quiet beauty, character, and atmosphere of “God’s Own Country,” offering visitors a thoughtful visual journey through the places that shaped the Brontë family.

Matt’s exhibition will be displayed in the Posh Parlour, a fitting setting for work that has been so integral to the life of the house. We are honoured to celebrate his artistry in a room that has witnessed so much of our history.

Exhibition Launch – Friday 6 November, 6pm–8pm

We warmly invite visitors to join us for a relaxed private view with refreshments. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet Matt, explore the exhibition, and enjoy the Birthplace after hours.
