Brontë Birthplace Tea Room

Nestled in the heart of Thornton, the Brontë Birthplace Tea Room offers a truly unique and authentic atmosphere. Warm, light and welcoming, the space was once the room where the Brontë family gathered and relaxed over 210 years ago.

Rich in history and character, the Tea Room also served as Thornton’s local butchers for almost 70 years throughout the 20th century. Today, visitors can still spot original features from its working past, including the exposed timber beams and the remaining butcher hooks where carcasses once hung — a fascinating reminder of the building’s ever-evolving story.

Visitors can enjoy a range of freshly prepared light bites, including sandwiches, toasties, scones and delicious desserts. Under the supervision and guidance of our Kitchen Manager, this cosy little spot is predominantly run by our dedicated team of volunteers.

Whether you’re joining us for a guided or self-guided tour, staying overnight, or simply exploring the beauty of Thornton village, the Tea Room is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
