This Bank Holiday weekend, we were thrilled to welcome a very special visitor to the Brontë Birthplace — Chilean-born artist and Brontë enthusiast Lorena Villegas de Trelford, also known as Lory Beat. Lory made the journey to see the newly restored house and view her vibrant artwork proudly on display in our parlour — a beautiful moment over a year in the making.
Lory kindly donated the painting in 2023, featuring the iconic three Brontë sisters in front of the very house where they were born. This powerful and joyful image has since become a recognisable part of our branding and has inspired one of our most popular creative initiatives — the Be More Brontë colouring sheets. Visitors of all ages have enjoyed interpreting Lory’s design in their own style, just as the Brontës themselves reimagined the world in theirs.
A passionate admirer of the Brontë sisters, Lory told us in her original feedback:
“The Brontë sisters are my all-time heroines. Their work has inspired me deeply, and I hope and trust that the Brontë Birthplace will continue to inspire future generations.”
It was a pleasure to show Lory around the house and share how her contribution continues to bring colour, creativity, and joy to everyone who visits. Thank you, Lory — your work is now woven into the story of this home.
We are proud to support and showcase a wide range of local, national and international artists at the Brontë Birthplace. As part of our ongoing exhibitions programme, we work with artists on a rotational basis, giving different voices the opportunity to share their creative response to this special house. If you’re an artist and would like to get involved, we’d love to hear from you.
