Brontë Birthplace, Thornton is thrilled to announce the appointment of Anna Gibson as their new General Manager, marking a significant milestone in the journey to restore and reopen the birthplace of Charlotte, Emily, Anne and their brother Branwell Brontë.
With extensive experience in heritage and cultural management, Anna will play a vital role in launching and overseeing the operations of the Brontë Birthplace, ensuring it thrives as a visitor destination, cultural hub, and community space. She will lead the organisation through the final stages of restoration, manage the day-to-day running of the site, and work closely with the committee to develop engaging experiences for visitors, schools, and literary enthusiasts.
Commenting on Anna’s appointment, Chair Katharine Barnett said:
“We are delighted to welcome Anna as our General Manager at such a crucial time. Her expertise will be invaluable as we prepare to open our doors, and we’re excited about the future of the Brontë Birthplace under her guidance. These are exciting times ahead, and we look forward to sharing this journey with the community and beyond.”
Anna’s role will also focus on ensuring financial sustainability, developing cultural programmes, and overseeing the events that celebrate the Brontë sisters’ literary legacy.
The Brontë Birthplace organisation was formed to preserve, restore, and celebrate the home where the Brontë sisters were born. Thanks to funding from Bradford City of Culture 2025, the UK Government’s Community Ownership Fund, National Lottery Heritage Fund, and the Rural England Prosperity Fund, as well as the dedication of over 600 shareholders, passionate volunteers, and Brontë experts, the project is on track to open at the end of March/early April 2025, ensuring the birthplace continues to inspire future generations.
