Brontë Birthplace

Fundraising Furnishing Appeal – Target £50,000

We are incredibly close to opening the doors of the Brontë Birthplace to the public next year, but to do so in a way that fully honours the legacy of the Brontë sisters, we need your help with our fundraising efforts.

To bring this vision to life, we are launching an appeal to raise £50,000 to furnish and equip the Birthplace. This will allow us to create a welcoming space for visitors and provide a rich, authentic experience that reflects the history of the Brontë family.

Your donations will go towards

Furnishing key areas such as the bedrooms, parlour, scullery, and café, with pieces that evoke the charm and history of the time.

Adding soft furnishings and decorative items throughout the house to recreate the ambience of the Brontë family home.

Equipping the café with the necessary kitchen appliances so that we can provide a comfortable space for visitors to relax and enjoy refreshments.

How Can You Help

Every donation, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to opening. What’s more, with Grant match funding, a £10 donation will release up to £90 of additional funding, turning your £10 into £100 for the Brontë Birthplace. Your contribution will make a real difference!

If you’re feeling creative, why not organise a fundraising event in support of the Birthplace? Whether it’s a bake sale, a sponsored walk, or a community gathering, your efforts can help us meet our fundraising target. Or, if you’re not sure where to start, consider volunteering to help with our fundraising efforts—every bit of support is appreciated.

The Impact of Your Support

We’ve achieved so much already, but the finishing touches are crucial to ensuring the Brontë Birthplace becomes a must-visit destination for literature lovers and tourists alike. Our plans include opening a café and visitor hub on the ground floor, which will also serve as an educational space for school visits and a hireable venue for local businesses and community groups. Upstairs, we’re restoring rooms to reflect the styles of the Brontë sisters, with the aim of offering them for Airbnb stays.

By supporting our fundraising appeal, you’re not just helping to furnish a historic house—you’re contributing to the revitalisation of Thornton’s Market Street, creating jobs and opportunities for local businesses, and helping to preserve a piece of literary history for future generations.

Get Involved: Donate today via our website, and if you’d like to organise a fundraising event or volunteer to assist with our fundraising, please email us at fundraising@brontebirthplace.com. Your support brings us closer to making the Brontë Birthplace a reality.
