Brontë Birthplace

Explore at Your Own Pace: Self-Guided Tours

Wander at your own pace through the history of the Brontë family and the transformation of the house over the last 200 years.

Our self-guided tours invite you to experience the Brontë Birthplace in your own time. Whether you’re a literary enthusiast, a curious local, or a visitor discovering Thornton for the first time, this is your opportunity to connect with the house and the lives it has held over the past two centuries.

From its humble beginnings as the Brontë family home, to a butcher’s shop, a private museum, and a café—every corner has a story to tell.

What You’ll Discover

Advance booking is essential. Each 1 hour session is limited to 12 visitors and £6 per visitor on entry. We keep our groups small so you get a more personal and engaging experience.

The self-guided tours cover the Brontë Birthplace’s ground floor, which is wheelchair accessible via our café area lift. Due to the historic nature of the house, the upper floors may be inaccessible to those with limited mobility.

You’re welcome to take photographs during your visit for personal use. For professional photography, please contact us in advance to discuss permissions and our media policy.

Important Notice: Please take a moment to read our Terms & Conditions before completing your booking. Due to limited capacity, we can accommodate a maximum of 12 guests per SESSION. Once booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email—please check your junk or spam folder if it doesn’t appear in your inbox. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to welcoming you to the Brontë Birthplace.
