The Brontë Birthplace, Thornton
The Brontë Birthplace in Thornton, Bradford, where Brontë children were born in front of the parlour fireplace, has been saved and is now open to the public for the first time in its 200-year history.
Thanks to the incredible support of over 700 individual investors, alongside significant grants from Bradford City of Culture 2025 and the Community Ownership Fund, the house is now under the care of Brontë Birthplace Limited, a community benefit society. More than £650,000 was raised to bring this historic site back to life.

This remarkable achievement ensures that the story of the world’s most famous literary siblings can be experienced in full—from cradle to legacy.
Now open, visitors can step inside history, explore the birthplace of the Brontës, will be able to enjoy the café by the original fireplace, and soon, even stay overnight in the rooms in which the family once occupied.
